Project

To provide Spanish companies with a comprehensive and comparable overview of each market’s sustainability context, enabling them to understand a country’s status in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) terms. The project responds to a context of increasing European and international regulatory demands, and to the need of the Commercial Office network to have a homogeneous, rigorous, and comparable framework to assess each market’s environmental, social, and governance context and convey that information to businesses.

Impact

Conese has designed for ICEX the methodology and tools for the Country Sustainability Report and Factsheet: a homogeneous framework that enables the network of Commercial Offices to assess each market’s ESG context and convey that information to Spanish companies in their internationalisation.

The Country Sustainability Report provides a comprehensive reading of each market and includes:

• The country’s general context, with its socioeconomic situation, strategic sectors, and country ranking in the main environmental, social, and governance indicators.

• The local ESG framework, with an analysis of the regulatory framework and its level of application, national priorities and plans, and the ESG requirements that companies operating in the country must meet.

• The ESG financing framework, with available aid and subsidies for projects and initiatives with a sustainability impact.

• The analysis of risks and opportunities by sector, which connects the market’s ESG factors with concrete business and financing opportunities for Spanish companies.

All of this is summarised in the Country Sustainability Factsheet, a visual and comparable tool that summarises the ESG profile of each market. The Country Sustainability Report and Factsheet have been validated in a Multistakeholder Focus Group that brought together more than 20 sustainability specialists, with representatives from the public sector, the private sector, and international organisations.
