ICEX Spain Export and Investment is organising this series of talks on due diligence, which will take place online in September and October.
ICEX Talk 1: Mapping and traceability of the value chain: identifying risks and impacts.
Wednesday, September 17th
(10h-11h)
Gaining an in-depth understanding of the value chain is the first step towards turning responsibility within the value chain into a strategic factor for competitiveness in international markets.
In this session, we will explore how to map and analyse suppliers, processes and key links in order to identify social and environmental risks throughout the entire chain. We will pay particular attention to country and sectoral risk analysis, which are fundamental to prioritising actions and targeting resources strategically.
Robust and comprehensive traceability not only facilitates regulatory compliance, but also enhances transparency, resilience, the ability to anticipate challenges, and access to high-value-added international markets.
This activity may be co-funded by the Eropean Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

ICEX Talk 2: Due diligence and double materiality. The financial impact of human rights and environmental management.
Wednesday, September 24th
(10h-11h)
Dual materiality is a highly useful holistic approach for businesses, enabling them to look in two directions:
Identifying and assessing impacts on people and the environment throughout the entire value chain (from raw materials to end-of-life);
Assessing how managing these impacts may present a risk or an opportunity in financial terms, including profitability, access to finance and market value.
In this session, we will explore how to apply this due diligence approach across the value chain to identify critical issues, assess risks and opportunities, and translate these into useful data for strategic decision-making on human rights that will help us improve our business and our competitive position in international markets.
This activity may be co-funded by the Eropean Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

ICEX Talk 3: The meaningful involvement of stakeholders in due diligence processes.
Wednesday, October 1st
(10h-11h)
Identifying, listening to and engaging with stakeholders, particularly those directly affected by adverse human rights impacts, such as workers, local communities or small suppliers, is a crucial component of due diligence.
This dialogue with affected parties will be essential to validate our identification and prioritisation of impacts, as well as to verify that the measures we take in this regard are appropriate. This approach not only improves the quality of the risk analysis, but also strengthens the company’s legitimacy in its international operations and environments by mitigating potential negative impacts that we may not have initially considered.
This activity may be co-funded by the Eropean Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

ICEX Talk 4: Consumer decisions based on impact criteria.
Tuesday, October 7th
(10h-11h)
Against a backdrop of growing social and regulatory demands regarding sustainability, it is becoming increasingly important to manage the value chain responsibly and to communicate this in an accurate and understandable way, so that consumers can make informed decisions. In this context, regulation against greenwashing not only protects the market from misleading practices, but also presents a strategic opportunity: companies able to demonstrate their positive environmental and social impact through concrete evidence can set themselves apart, strengthen their reputation and build trusting relationships with their customers.
However, how can these efforts be communicated credibly and effectively to consumers and various stakeholders? Is this commitment truly valued by consumers, customers, distributors or investors?
This activity may be co-funded by the Eropean Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
